Baroness May Blood: Integrated Education Fund
Meet Baroness May Blood…
Baroness May Blood grew up in a working-class area of Belfast.
At 14-years-old she began working in the local mill and before long got heavily involved in advocating for women’s right. After being brought up in a ‘mixed’ community she watched in disbelief as that community disintegrated during ‘The Troubles.’
At this time, May became increasingly involved in grassroots community work and a key player in the `peace process.’So in 1999 in recognition of her years of trade union and community endeavours, May Blood was offered a life peerage and a seat in the House of Lords.
Now since 2002, Baroness May Blood has been the Campaign Chair of the Integrated Education Fund in Northern Ireland and has helped to raise over £18 million to support their mission.
In today’s episode, we talk all about what it was like growing up in Belfast in the ’40s, her time in the House Of Lords and why Integrated Education is essential to overcoming the pain of our past.
All this and more coming up on today’s exciting 90th episode special.
