Lady Mary Peters: Olympian, Author, Legend
Meet Mary Peters…
Lady Mary Peters, LG CH DBE RNR OLY — or Mary P as her friends call her — is an Olympic Gold Medalist, member of the Order Of The Garter and most recently the author of her new book Passing The Torch.
After moving to Northern Ireland when she was 11-years-old, Mary trained as a Domestic Science Teacher before competing professionally in sport. This ultimately led to Mary winning the women’s pentathlon gold medal in the 1972 Summer Olympics and setting a world record that still stands today.
Mary has been an inspiration to people throughout Northern Ireland, bringing people together in times of trouble, through her sporting triumphs. Her Trust has given over 4000 young people the opportunity to pursue their sporting dreams and represent this part of the world around the globe.
In this episode, we chat about moving to NI at a young age, her experience competing in the Olympics and the challenges she’s faced along the way.
All this and more in today’s show.
